VAT is simple on paper. Penalties aren't.
Most VAT penalties don't come from complex tax questions. They come from a return filed a day late, a license change never reported, or a company that stopped trading but stayed registered. ComplyUAE puts every VAT obligation in one place so nothing slips.
From first TRN to final return, handled for you
Three stages cover the full life of your VAT registration. Start with whichever one you need today.
VAT registration
For new businesses, companies approaching the threshold, and those registering voluntarily to recover input tax.
Apply within 30 days of crossing the thresholdYour account manager checks whether you must register, can register voluntarily, or qualify for an exception. Then they prepare and submit your application on EmaraTax and follow it through until your Tax Registration Number is issued.
What we handle
- Threshold check from your sales and import figures
- EmaraTax account setup and application filing
- Replies to FTA clarification requests
- Tax group registration for related companies
- Amendments when license, address or partners change
Documents you upload
- Trade license and MOA
- Passport and Emirates ID of owners and signatory
- Turnover statement for the last 12 months
- Customs registration, if you import or export
- Bank details and Ejari or lease
VAT return filing
For every VAT-registered business, every tax period, whether quarterly or monthly.
File and pay within 28 days of period endUpload invoices as they come in. AI document scan reads and sorts them, your account manager reconciles output and input tax, and the return goes in on EmaraTax before the deadline. Every return's status sits in your compliance calendar.
What we handle
- VAT 201 return by emirate and supply type
- Input tax claims checked against valid tax invoices
- Reverse charge on imports and foreign services

VAT deregistration
For businesses that stopped taxable supplies, fell below the threshold, or are closing or merging.
Apply within 20 business days of eligibilityStaying registered when you no longer need to means filing returns every period and risking late-deregistration penalties. We confirm eligibility, settle outstanding returns, and submit the application so your TRN is cancelled cleanly.

- Deregistration application on EmaraTax
- FTA follow-ups until approval
Documents you upload

Record-keeping
Invoices, credit notes, import documents and ledgers stored by tax period, the way the FTA expects to see them.
FTA enquiries and notices
When the FTA writes to you, your AM drafts the reply, gathers documents and tracks it to closure.
Tax audits and inspections
Pre-audit review, reconciliations prepared in advance, and support on the day of the visit.
Penalty reconsideration
If a penalty has been issued, we review whether it can be challenged and prepare the request.
Compliance calendar
Every VAT deadline per entity, alongside license expiry, visa renewals and corporate tax dates.

VAT questions, answered
Can't find what you need? Your account manager replies within 24 hours.
Who needs to register for VAT in the UAE?
Registration is mandatory if your taxable supplies and imports exceeded AED 375,000 in the past 12 months, or are expected to in the next 30 days. You can register voluntarily from AED 187,500, which lets you recover VAT on business expenses.
When is the VAT return due?
Returns and any VAT payable are due within 28 days after the end of each tax period. Most businesses file quarterly; some are assigned monthly periods by the FTA. Your exact due dates appear in your compliance calendar.
What records do I need to keep for VAT?
Tax invoices, credit and debit notes, import and export documents, ledgers and financial statements. The general retention period is five years, longer for real estate. Everything you upload is stored in your portal by tax period.
Do free zone companies have to comply with VAT?
Yes. Free zone companies follow the same registration, filing and record-keeping rules as mainland businesses. Designated zones have special treatment for certain movements of goods, which we account for in your returns.
What happens if I miss a VAT deadline?
The FTA issues administrative penalties for late registration, late filing, late payment and late deregistration. Deadline tracking and account manager review exist to stop that from happening.
When should I deregister for VAT?
Apply within 20 business days of stopping taxable supplies, or of your supplies falling below the voluntary threshold over 12 months. Staying registered means returns are still due every period.
